EUROPE DAY MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE OF THE NATIONAL AUTHORISING OFFICER

,

Today, we join with the European Union (EU) Member States in their celebration of Europe Day.

Seventy-three (73) years ago, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman espoused an outlook for peace hinged on the need for enhanced cooperation and creative thinking which would lend itself to a peaceful co-existence. This foresight has continued to inspire cooperation within the EU and across the globe.

Antigua and Barbuda has maintained a close relationship with the EU for decades engaging on matters of national development, regional-integration and trade. This cooperation has breathed life into Schuman’s vision.

As our island state and region at large have been faced with new and unprecedented challenges, the EU has proven to be a steadfast partner. Ongoing reconstruction in Barbuda, relief efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic and investments in the local education system stand as a testament to continued EU engagement in Antigua and Barbuda. Looking forward, we hope to strengthen these ties with the EU and creatively build opportunities of the future.

The Office of the National Authorising Officer extends our heartiest congratulations to the EU, and its member states on the celebration of Europe Day 2023.
